Jack glared at Dave for a minute. "I see how you're lookin' at my boy" he growled. "If you hurt him, I don't care how long it takes me to get out of here, I will slice you open and use yer guts to decorate my christmas tree"

Dave quickly stopped looking at Karkat and looked down at his shoes. Okay, he was absolutely terrified of Jack. He was certain the man would kill him if he wanted to. He really hoped the visit would be over soon. Or at the very least Karkat would say something to his father to make him leave him alone.

Jack grunted in clear disapproval.

Dave looked at his phone for the time before putting it back in his pocket. He kept staring at his shoes and the floor. Jack obviously didn't like him, for some reason. He didn't want to give the man a reason to not like him.

Jack grumbled. "Thanks then. For that"

Dave phone was vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out again to check it. Jeff had sent him a text asking how things were going and when the visit will be over.

"His dad already hates me. I don't know why. I don't know when the visit will be over."
It only took a minute for the older Strider to send a reply.
"Find out. I want to pick you two up. We can go out to eat somewhere."

Dave placed his phone is his lap and looked back at Karkat. "Hey Kar? How long do you want to stay? Jeff wants to pick us up when we're ready to leave. He wants to take us out to eat."

"Who's Jeff?" Jack asked suspiciously

"Dave's brother. He took care of me too" Karkat mumbled.

"Well visitation is only 40 minutes" Jack supplied.

Dave sent Jeff a text with how much time they had left to visit.
Once again, the reply was quick. "I'll be waiting for you guys." Dave slipped his phone back into his pocket. He glanced at Karkat, then back at the ground.

Jack murmured something softly to Karkat and he responded quietly back, staying in Jack's lap. They apparently started a conversation like that.

Dave looked up to watch the two. He was a bit nervous about what they were talking about. Hopefully it wasn't anything bad. Or a plan to kill him. He didn't say anything as they continued their conversation.

When time was up Karkat hesitantly climbed out out of his lap, only for Jack to plant a little kiss on his forehead and ruffle his hair. "I'll see you next week" he stated softly.

Karkat could only nod as they were escorted out of the room.

As soon as they were outside Dave grabbed Karkat's hand and held on tightly. "Does you dad hate me already?"

"My dad hates everyone" Karkat replied. "I don't see how he treated you any different from anyone else"

"Not gonna lie your dad scares me." Dave squeezed his hand, but didn't let go. Jeff was at the curb waiting for them. Dave got into the back seat and pulled Karkat in with them. Jeff looked at their hands, but didn't say anything. "So, how'd it go?"

Dave didn't say anything. Jeff only nodded. "I'm not gonna ask why. Sooo....where are we gonna eat? You can pick Kat."
