Karkat stretched and walked back to Dave's room to flop down on Dave's bed with a sigh.

Five minutes later Dave walked into his room only wearing a towel. His hair was wet and he hadn't put his avaitors back on. He put on the pair of pajama pants before joining Karkat on the bed. His the top the of his head. "Jeff didn't bother you too much, did he?"

Dave and Karkat both were up by 9 the next morning. When they left at 10 Jeff was still sleeping. Dave didn't say much during the bus drive. He was a bit nervous about the visit. Only dumbasses and people with nothing to lose aren't afraid of prison. He wanted to start a conversation with Karkat but couldn't think of anything to talk about.

Karkat stared out the bus window the entire ride there, actually looking forward to seeing his dad again.

Dave was starting to get nervous when they got there. They were put in a room to wait for Karkat's father. He wanted to grab and other male's hand and not let go, but decided against it. He didn't want to get Karkat worked up or get on his dad's bad side when first meeting him.

Karkat was concerned when he wasn't allowed to visit with his dad in the visitor's center, and confused when they told him he had been removed from gen. pop. he didn't question it, however, and sat in silence with Dave while they went to get him.

"Soooooo......" Dave wasn't sure what to talk about. But the silence was making him paranoid. "Does you dad have any other siblings besides your uncle?"

"That's cool," Dave scratched the back of his head. He grabbed Karkat's hand and gave it a quick squeeze before letting go.

A guard finally led Karkat's dad in, and Karkat gasped in shock, his eyes wide at the bandage around his head.

"dad?!"

Dave looked at Kakrkat's dad, then down at the ground. He looked intimidating. Definitely not someone to mess with. "Hello sir."

"What happened to your face?" Karkat asked, clearly scared and upset as he got up and hesitantly approached him, tears in his eyes.

"Someone tried to make me 'is Bitch." Jack replied simply. "I'm Nobody's bitch."

Dave stayed in his seat and didn't say anything. He was already afraid of this guy. He watched Karkat instead. He wished he could hug the other boy or hold his hand. It upset Dave to see Karkat upset.

Jack sighed, moving forward and sitting in the chair left for him. He held open his arms to Karkat, an obvious invitation which he took instantly.

Karkat practically threw himself into Jack's arms, curling up in his lap with his head hidden in his shoulder.

"Its okay kid"

Dave sat in his chair, still not saying anything. He was glad Jeff wasn't here, yet also wished he was. He was good at handling awkward situations not so awkward. Dave also wished he could help Karkat. But he had no clue how his father would react. He just hoped he wouldn't do anything to upset the man. He was actually kinda hoping his crush's father wouldn't talk to him at all.

Dave looked up when Jack spoke to him. He looked everywhere but at him. "Uhhhh...I'm Dave. Karkat's friend. He's been staying with me and my brother Jeff."

Dave still wasn't looking at Jack. He looked at Karkat instead. "Yeah. He was out in the rain when we found him."

Jack growled deep in his throat. "Deuce outta knock some damn manners into that kid. Should'a left ya with herts. Ya didn't get sick did ya?" His voice softened as he cradled Karkat to him. "that explains why ya feel a little warmer than normal."

Dave wondered what Karkat's mother had been like. He really hoped the visit would be over soon. Jack freaked the fuck out of him. He just wanted to go back to the apartment and curl up with Karkat on his bed.
