Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat returned to the page, staring at it for a long moment before deciding on what to write and show Dave. 'The only card game Mr. Egbert let john teach me was old maid'
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave tilted his head to the side, reading the paper and then pointed a lazy finger at Karkat, "That would explain it. Mr. E didn't teach you how to do anything fun and interesting so you're bored way too easily." Not that poker was much fun when it was only two people, much less when one of them couldn't even talk, but it couldn't hurt trying. "If you want, I could show you a few games that help me kill time when our electricity's out."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat shrugged. He tore off the top page and scribbled something down, crossed it out, then wrote something else.
'don't you ever sleep I think i'll just read for a while'
'
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
"To answer your original question: yes, I do sleep, but not 24/7 like some people. But if you start nodding off while you read, we're doing something else." Dave picked up the remote and flicked the channel over to Cake Boss, considering getting the first season of this series for John on his birthday for ironic shenanigans and all that jazz.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat hurried to Dave's room to get his book, blanket, and plush only to return to the same place on the futon. He wrapped himself neatly in the blanket like a cocoon, only his face and hands showing when he was done, the plush hidden from view in his lap. He then opened the book and started to read to himself, every once in a while mouthing gently a word he didn't quite comprehend.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave watched Karkat get himself set up nice and cozy in the corner of the futon, rolling his eyes back to the TV. It had to be a sin to be that cute. Honestly, watching Karkat was like watching two baby bunnies playing leap frog in a basket of daisies. It was murder for Dave not to want to intervene and pat him on the head or give him a hug or Heaven forbid he ever even think the word snuggle. Instead, he lazily watched the troll from the corner of his eye, facing the television so it looked like he was really just watching the show.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat finished his book after a little over an hour, uncovering himself and going back to Dave's room to get another of his books. Right now he was reading his way through a series called 'Warriors' and it was about a tribe of cats trying to survive in a human forest. He was only on book 3 but Mr. Egbert had gotten him the box set for his birthday.
He returned to his place on the couch again, opening his book after getting all covered up again.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave read the title of Karkat's new book and successfully avoided snickering. Wow. Karkat was reading about cats talking to other cats right now and Dave only knew this because he had read maybe half of the first book for ironic purposes. That was the silliest thing. The troll might as well have been reading The Three Little Bears or a Grandma Goose tale as far as he was concerned. His bottom lip was tugged down and nibbled on for the sake of stifling a teasing grin at the babyish troll.
Little girls read those things. Maybe Karkat was a girl. Actually, he really wasn't sure what was the deal with troll genitals come to think of it. Vriska had told him once that they all had twenty tentacle dicks that protruded from the sides of their ribs, but that was information coming from one of the craziest bitch trolls he had ever known. Then Tavros insisted that they did, in fact, have the same genitals technically, but certain feminine and masculine qualities lead them to be called opposite genders, which varied from being considered different sexes. That still didn't really answer his question about what the Hell trolls had downstairs, but it was only a vague curiosity to begin with anyway.

Karkat stifled a yawn, flipping the page and wriggling farther down into the blanket. He was getting a little sleepy, but he didn't want to stop reading yet. That and he didn't want to really do anything with Dave. He was still a little wary of the human.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Having had enough diabetes for one night, Dave quit glancing over at Karkat and focused completely on the show, discovering that the head baker's accent was actually kind of amusing. After a while, he decided that his little break was over and that he needed to get back to work. Dave's feet slid off the coffee table and he stood up, stretching until his back made a satisfying popping sound. "Well, I'm going to go work on my mix if you promise to stay put." Not really waiting for an answer, he headed back into his room, leaving the TV on for the sake of background noise.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat looked up long enough to watch him go, returning to his book as soon as he was out of sight. He didn't feel like following him off the couch.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Progress. At long last. Dave as actually making progress on his mix now instead of failing at epic proportions each and every time he attempted to type something. Things were flowing much more smoothly now and he was going to make every second count. His free style moved from his mind to his finger tips with great ease and he clacked madly away at the keyboard, only moving back to his mouse every once and a while to edit the occasional typo or misspelling. He worked until he could barely work his fingers, his clacking becoming a slowed down, uncoordinated tapping at the keys. It was done. It was done and he could hardly keep his eyes open to read over what he had down.
The file was saved and he shut the computer off for the night, heading back to the living room to check on the troll to make sure he was still there so Bro wouldn't skin Dave alive when he got back.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat was half asleep, reading the same line over and over without actually reading it. His eyes glazed and his eyelids drooped, but he was stubbornly keeping his eyes open so he didn't have to stop reading.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave watched the back of Karkat's drooping head before heading back into his room, peeling off his shirt and pants to crawl into bed. He figured that he could get away with this since the troll was still in the living room and wouldn't act weird if he stripped down to his drawers. John had told him about that whole modesty thing with the buckets, so it seemed as though it would be polite to avoid changing clothes in front of one of them. It's not even like he could say it should be fine for him to do this around the troll like they all had the same genitals or whatever. Hell, even if they did, that didn't make the sexual tension any less present as the Striders had no bounds when it came to such matters.
This time, Dave remembered to take off his shades and placed them on the night stand. He pulled his covers over his bare shoulders afterwards and drifted off to sleep, trying not to think about troll junk while he was at it.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
It wasn't long before Karkat fell asleep.
Bro came home not long after and took one look at Karkat alone on the couch before scowling. He scooped the troll up and carried him gently to his nest in Dave's room. He lightly papped Dave upside the head. "Don't leave him alone out there to go to sleep, dumbass." he scolded before heading out to get ready for bed himself.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave hardly registered that Bro had bopped him on the head for when he was in deep slumber, only wincing and mumbling something incomprehensible under his breath. At the most, he turned over in his sleep, nuzzling closer to his pillow.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat slept peacefully for a time before his dreams turned turbulent. He woke up trilling loudly in fear as he thrashed in his blankets, helplessly tangled and trapped. His thrashing knocked a bag away and he kicked Dave's desk before finally freeing himself, pinkinsh tears cascading down his cheeks as he keened.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Just like the night before, Dave awoke to the sound of fearful trilling, though this time it was much louder. He shrugged off his covers and blinked his blurry vision upon the thrashing troll. He sat up abruptly and dragged himself out of bed, heedless of putting his shades back on as it was dark and there seemed to be no point in hiding his ruby red eyes from the troll. After all, who was he going to tell anyway?
Making his way through the dark of his room, he flicked on the light switch, studying the terrified troll from afar. Dave cringed at the sudden brightness, shielding his eyes with an arm as he addressed Karkat, "Hey, hey, hey- what's the matter little dude? Boogey man got you by the britches?"

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Bro pushed the door open, looking disheveled, even with his shades safely in place. "What the fuck's going on?" he grumbled sleepily.
As soon as Karkat's eyes focused on Bro, he scrambled out of his displaced nest and clung to him tightly, trilling fearfully.
Bro grunted, letting a hand rest on the troll's head. "You had a bad dream" he stated, petting the troll calmly. "Fuck."

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
It was perfectly understandable for Karkat to flee to Bro for comfort, after all, Bro was nothing but a bundle of parental, friendly fluff to the troll while Dave was just a big, scary, unfeeling ice wall. Well, perhaps not entirely unfeeling as he was hinting something very strongly that resembled envy for the strangest of reasons. He heaved a bored sigh, secretly wanting to join in on the hug fest but figured that would also involve hugging Bro and he had very mixed feelings about that.
Rather than stand awkwardly at the side lines, Dave silently slipped out of the room, deciding to keep himself occupied in the kitchen until they were all done hugging the troll's fears away.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
After a few minutes of trying to comfort the troll and not doing so well, Bro just picked Karkat up and carried him out to the futon. He laid him down and laid down next to him, cradling him gently. "Go back to bed Dave." He called gently, doing much better at comforting the troll that now clung to him.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Finishing up drinking from the tap, Dave wiped his mouth off along his arm and returned to his room, not without get a good look at Karkat curled up beside Mother Hen Bro on the futon. He couldn't recall the last time Bro had ever allowed Dave to sleep next to him. Actually, he didn't think he ever had really, at least not at a time where he could remember things. Not that it mattered really since he wasn't keen sleeping next to the biggest douche on the planet.
Dave slumped back onto bed, not even bothering to throw his covers back on since it wasn't terribly cold that night so what was the fucking point.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Bro finally got Karkat to sleep and drifted back off himself only to wake a few hours later for work. He tried to get up, only to have the troll clinging to him stubbornly in his sleep.
With a sigh, he got up, cradling the sleeping troll against him, and made his way to Dave's room. He sat on the edge of Dave's bed and, using one hand to keep Karkat safely against him, shook him awake. "Hey, put some pyjamas on."

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave mumbled in his sleep, nuzzling into his pillow until Bro woke him up and he rubbed his bleary eyes with both hands, grimacing, "M'what? Why?" He spotted Karkat in Bro's arm and had his answer. "Oh... Yeah, sure." He scooted out of bed and pulled open their shared dresser, getting out an over-sized shirt and long pajama bottoms. After fumbling around a bit more in the dark since it was still fairly early morning, he managed to get them on and came back over to the bed, gesturing towards Karkat, "Need help prying him off?"
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
"Nah, just lay back down. And if he makes any noise, pet him real careful between his horns till he starts purring." Bro replied, carefully peeling Karkat off him as he spoke. "And don't just leave him out in the living room today. See if you can't coax him into doing something he wants to do. Might help with your writers block a little."
