Karkat purred loudly to convey his pleasure, nuzzling Dave's shoulder and pressing closer to his side. He smiled widely as he got up, moving over to squat in front of the bookcase.

Dave watched Karkat head over to the shelf, flipping the TV channel to VCR and turning that on as well with a second remote so that everything was set up for the troll whenever he picked something out for them to watch.

Karkat picked out a movie that looked interesting and slipped it in. It turned out he had picked out Good Burger. He sat back on the sofa, laying down and laying his head on Dave's thigh with a little chirp.

Dave slid his hand over Karkat's head and began petting him again, keeping his gaze on the TV. "Nice choice." He shifted away a bit so that his crotch wasn't so close to Karkat's head, making up for the lost contact by keeping another hand on Karkat's shoulder.

Karkat started purring loudly at the contact, letting his eyes drift to half mast. He was only half paying attention to the movie, more concerned with Dave's hands.

The louder Karkat's purring became, the more Dave began to focus on the petting, his idle hand joining in on the action. He glanced down at the troll and smirked as he scratched behind one of Karkat's ears, asking, "Do all trolls like being petted this much, or is that just you?

Karkat lazily lifted a hand to flip Dave off, but his heart obviously wasn't in it. He let his hand flop back down and stretched out on the couch like a cat in a patch of sunlight, before going limp.

Dave eased down on his petting when Karkat stopped moving around so much, simply tracing lazy circles along the troll's head. The movie was only half way through by the time Karkat fell asleep again, but he wasn't paying much attention to it when he had the troll sleeping in his lap. He felt so soft and warm and wonderful and wow- Dave felt like a corny school girl in love with a cute boy. This was all kinds of crazy, feeling so many things for one person when neither of you are really doing much of anything. Even the crushes he had before Karkat were nothing like this; this was something else entirely.

Karkat dreamed again, but this time was different than all the other dreams he had ever had before. This dream was all about Dave. Dave and Karkat talking, but in this dream, Karkat could talk too. The two of them doing fun things together, then, after Karkat had been asleep nearly an hour, Dave kissed him, which caused Karkat to wake up, jerking upright with an undignified squawk.

Dave shifted back a bit, giving Karkat a puzzled look before reaching over and petting his head in an attempt to sooth him. "Was it another bad dream?"

Karkat looked at Dave with wide eyes, his eyes darting to Dave's lips as his face heated up. He shook his head briskly, hurriedly looking to the TV, which was no longer playing the movie. His face heated up even more when he realized that that ment he had been asleep on Dave's lap for a while.

Dave smiled at Karkat, ruffling his hair before getting up and walking over to the TV. "I've gotta go to work in an hour. It takes about half an hour by bike to get there," he stated as he crouched down and took the VHS tape out and stuck it back in its case. "And I'm not really sure when Bro is getting off work, so you might have the place to yourself for a while." He looked over his shoulder at Karkat as he stood back up, snapping the case shut, "You gonna be alright until then?"

Karkat's face fell, but he quickly looked to his lap with a scowl. He nodded, figuring he could wait until Bro got home, he usually did around seven. He pulled Bro's pillow from the end of the couch and hugged it to his chest.

Dave frowned at Karkat, putting away the case on the shelf and walking back over to him. "Hey, I'll only be there for five hours. You can watch TV or play whatever until then. Maybe finish that book you were reading?"

Karkat shrugged, keeping his face down. He would probably just read till Bro got home, maybe watch another movie, then get the older male to play video games with him so he could get better.

Dave hugged Karkat's head in one arm, pressing the troll to his chest and letting go just as suddenly as he had initiated the hug. Since he already had changed into fresh clothes, he just went into the bathroom with a towel and took a shower to get ready for work.

Karkat pouted, hugging the pillow to his chest tighter. After a few minutes of listening to the water run, he got up and put another movie in. This one was some weird anime with a bunch of guys who shot this energy stuff out of their hands. He figured it must be an irony thing.

Once Dave was finished showering, he dried off and put his clothes back on before heading back to his room and getting his socks and shoes on. He neatly stuck his uniform in his back pack, pulling his BMX bike helmet out and walking into the living room. "Alright, I'm off now. Is there anything you'd like me to pick up or whatever while I'm out?"

Karkat looked at him a moment before nodding. He hesitantly let go of the pillow and held out his arms toward Dave in what was obviously a gesture for a hug.

Dave smiled gently, placing his things down and walking over to Karkat. He stepped between Karkat's knees and leaned forward, slipping his arms around the troll and hugging him to his stomach. "I won't be gone for too long," he insisted, scratching Karkat's head. "Promise."

Karkat gave a little grunt and gave Dave a squeeze. He was debating on whether or not to do what he really wanted to do, but he chose not and let go with a scowl up at Dave, as if telling him to hurry up and leave so he could hurry up and get back.

After thoroughly ruffling Karkat's hair again, Dave walked back over to his things, shouldering his backpack and sticking his helmet under his arm. He opened the door and turned to look back at the troll, giving Karkat a two finger salute and shutting the door behind him.

Karkat stuck his tongue out at him and turned back to the TV.

At nearly six, Bro texted Dave with bad news.

Boss is making me work overtime so i won't be home till after my gig around two or so. Make sure to feed the troll before bed. If you need it there's a twenty in the ass of the yellow smuppet in the blender.

Karkat meanwhile made himself comfortable. By six the TV was off and he was sitting on the futon reading his book.

After getting dressed in his uniform in the bathroom, Dave folded his clothes and was just stuffing them into his backpack when he felt his pocket hum with a text message.

Oh fuck.

He quickly texted back,
