Right, you would be too shit faced to remember. But that's a whole other bag of douche to deal with and we got plenty on the plate right now. Did Mr. E tell you how long Karkat can handle being by himself?

Shit. I'll try to get out as early as I can, but I don't think I'll be able to get home before 10 or 11. I'll give you an update when I get there.

Dave slumped against one of the walls in the stall he was in, rubbing his forehead in aggravation. Ok, it would only be a few hours; just a few. Karkat could handle that, right?
Right?

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
By seven Karkat had grown bored of his book and simply sat on his knees with his head resting on his arms on the back of the futon so he could stare at the door. When Bro wasn't home at seven thirty, Karkat started to worry. By eight he was pacing and positively starving, so he pulled his chinese food from the fridge and ate it cold, perched on the edge of the counter where he could still see the front door.
Karkat was so anxious and stressed that he was alone, that he actually made himself sick out of worry. Eight thirty to nine thirty was spent in the bathroom, on his knees by the toilet, quivering in pain as his stomach voided all of the cold chinese food and more.
Crying and miserable, Karkat stripped to his boxers and did his best to wash the vomit out of his pyjamas. When it didn't work very well, he left them on the floor of the shower and put a t-shirt on, gathering up Cal and his lusus doll and crawling into Dave's bed to try and sleep pressed up in the corner.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Time went at the pace of a snail under cardiac arrest at Dave's work and he found himself constantly glancing back at the clock on the wall as he served breakfast at dinner time to all of the tables. All of them. Even his coworkers began to notice how distracted he was as he fucked up orders and almost dropped an entire tray of dishes on several occasions. And he prided himself in never fucking up here.
When his boss took notice as well, she let him off a few minutes early, telling him to get his shit together next time. He knew she meant well by it and by all means, he was going to do just that when he got home.
Not even bothering to change out of his uniform, Dave hopped onto his bike and peddled like Hell for home. Dave had never peddled so hard in his life, not even during the times when Bro had raced him with his motorcycle against his little brother's bicycle. Those had been all kinds of ridiculously out of proportion unfair odds, but that was Bro, never picking a fight he couldn't completely own.
As soon as Dave got to the bike rack outside the apartments, he fumbled frantically with his bike lock, screwing up the numbers in a rush after he clicked it securely around the main frame of his bike. He flash stepped up the stairs and whipped out his keys, unlocking the door and tugging his keys back out before slamming it shut behind him.
"Karkat?" He called exasperatedly, looking around the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom, where he found Karkat's sick covered pajamas on the floor, before finally his room. Oh thank Gog. The troll was still here and breathing.
Dave hurried over to his bed, taking a seat and looking Karkat over, double checking that he hadn't hurt himself somehow while Dave was gone, checking his horn where the bandage was still holding strong. He rubbed Karkat's shoulder before leaning down far enough to hold him in a gentle hug, trying to catch his breath and calm himself down as he did this. Fuck. He had never worried about anyone this much until now; not even his Bro had ever given him this much of a scare before and he was about the closest person he should kind of give a fuck about.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat was startled awake by suddenly being held, but as soon as Dave's scent registered, his arms were around him, fingers digging into his back as he pressed himself as close to Dave as he could with a heart wrenching keen. His tears, which stopped when he fell asleep, started again and were thicker than before as he pressed his face to Dave's shoulder, quivering.
It was official; Karkat did not like being alone very long if he was not supposed to be alone to begin with. He never wanted Dave to leave him alone again, never ever.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave winced painfully when the troll's fingers dug into his back, but he really couldn't have cared less about how much that hurt when he was too relieved to feel the strength of Karkat's returned hug. Maybe it was just how roughly Karkat was clinging to him that it was squishing his ribs into his organs, but Dave's heart was aching something awful.
He wrapped his arms around Karkat and nuzzled into his neck, brushing his hair through his fingers as he rubbed the back of Karkat's head, whispering shakily, "H-hey, it's all tight now. You're rock solid, lil dude. I've gotcha." He couldn't believe that his voice was actually faltering, he was still freaking out so much over this.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat gave a little keen, his grip relaxing as he let his arms slide down Dave's sides to rest almost naturally at the curve of the man's waist. He nuzzled Dave's shoulder and his keen dissolved into a shaky purr.
God he was pathetic; any troll in their right mind would have pitied him or culled him by this point, but not Dave. Humans had their weird love romance. And strangely enough, Karkat thought he just might be in love romance with the human; in any case he really cared for him much stronger than pity.
Karkat wriggled slightly, moving closer to Dave.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave rubbed Karkat's back in large, soothing circles, running his hand up and down the arch of the troll's spine with firm, reassuring pressure. The purring told him that he must have been doing something right since Karkat didn't seem to be crying quite as hard as he had been a second ago. Or at least, this is what he could tell from the dampness that felt like it wasn't developing any larger on his shoulder. Shit, the troll cried pink tears; his uniform was white. Whatever, that wasn't what was important right then.
Where his mind really should have been was where the troll's hands were traveling. No, that didn't matter either. Karkat was probably just resting them, nothing to give a second thought about. Instead, Dave focused solely on comforting the troll because now wasn't the time to be thinking about how close their bodies were or how warm and soft and cuddly Karkat was. He silently kept petting Karkat, careful to mind his horns as he nuzzled against the side of Karkat's head, their ears flicking across each other. He just needed to make sure that Karkat felt safe.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat let out a soft trill, tilting his head so he could look up at Dave with his still teary eyes. He gave a questioning little chirp, sniffling and nuzzling Dave's shoulder a little. He knew Dave was only trying to comfort him, but he wanted Dave to know he was okay now... Mostly.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave stroked Karkat's hair, tipping him back a bit so that he could have another look at him. He brought his thumb under one of the troll's eyes, wiping away a pink, transparent trail of tears. Hesitantly, he pressed a kiss on Karkat's forehead, holding both sides of his head with either hand as he pulled away and asked, "You alright now?"
He felt like an incompetent nanny guarding an incredibly fragile kid allergic to sunlight and the only thing he had to shield the little guy was himself. All he had done was leave Karkat for a few hours and now the troll was sick and bawling his eyes out. Whatever had happened to Karkat during SUBURB must have severely fucked him up to make him like this. In the end, the only thing that Dave could really feel at that moment was pity.
There had been the feeling of relief, but that was stomped out as he realized that this could very easily happen again soon. It was apparent that Bro and Dave had jobs with conflicting work schedules; they couldn't be there 24/7 for Karkat without losing those jobs. It's not as though they had the money to hire a baby sitter who could keep their mouth shut about watching over an alien; it was too risky to trust a stranger to guard him. Even if Karkat wore a disguise, there was too much potential for something as simple as smudging his make up or dropping his hat that could put him in all kinds of danger if that person saw the financial opportunity in exposing him to the public. Jesus Christ. No wonder the troll had problems.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat closed his eyes and nodded, shifting after a minute so he could lie his head back on Dave's shoulder. He purred softly, moving his hands back up to Dave's back so he could hold himself a little closer to him.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave didn't think that Karkat could hold himself much closer than they already were, but he was mistaken as the other body shifted and he was presented with more hugging. He let go of Karkat's head and went back to running his hand up and down his spine and gently patting his shoulder blades. After staying like this for a few minutes, Dave asked, "You want me to order you something to eat?" Judging by the mess in the bathroom, he figured that Karkat probably needed something to drink at the very least.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat shook his head gently. His stomach was settling now, but knowing Karkat's luck, it would only turn again once there was food in it and the last thing he wanted to do was puke on Dave.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave pulled away a bit and held Karkat at arm's length, asking sincerely, "You want me to get you some water then?"
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat's face fell a little at being pulled away, and he shrugged, looking guilty. What was he thinking, Dave just wanted to make sure that he was okay so he didn't get in trouble, he didn't actually care. He brushed Dave's hands off him and he laid back down, carefully tugging the blanket back up to his chin.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave looked confused as for a brief moment, it seemed like Karkat had wanted him to do something else. Like he was expecting something. Maybe this was the time to act? Dave leaned down on the bed, hovering over Karkat from the side and hesitantly gave the troll a light peck on the lips.
Instantaneously, the lingering taste of bile made Dave flinch and he stepped off the bed, "I'm gonna go... get you some water then--" He muttered, backing away slowly before opening the door and flash stepping into the kitchen.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat stiffened at the kiss, his face flushing deeply as Dave absconded from the room. He quickly rolled over to face the wall once Dave was out of sight, curling up in a ball. He wasn't completely sure why the blonde would do something like that, even less sure by the way he cringed and absconded so fast.
And the humans said that the trolls always gave mixed signals.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave washed his mouth out in the sink before returning to the bedroom with a glass of water and setting it on the nightstand within reach of the bed for when Karkat wanted it. He grabbed a large t-shirt and thick sweat pants, heading into the bathroom and changing into those. After brushing his teeth and scrubbing his tongue thoroughly, even though there had been no 'tongue action' in the kiss, he picked up Karkat's discarded clothes off the floor and tossed them in the laundry hamper when he returned to his room.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat was still laying against the wall, facing it and curled slightly in on himself. Both his lusus Doll and lil'Cal were behind him where they had been dropped on the bed when Dave had pulled him into his arms.
At this point, Karkat wasn't even sure he wanted to be sleeping in the same bed as Dave; well, he knew he wanted to but he didn't think Dave wanted him to anymore.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave set his shades on his nightstand beside the glass of water and placed his shoes by the side of the bed before crawling under the sheets. He scooted over and placed lil Cal and the Crabdad plushie between Karkat and the wall. He then spooned the troll from behind, nuzzling into the nape of Karkat's neck and pressing a soft kiss there. "Good night," he mumbled, draping an arm over Karkat as he settled in comfortably behind him.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat shuddered and wriggled uncomfortably. Since the wall cut off his escape, he shifted until he could sit up, spotting the glass of water and taking a chance to try and lean over Dave to grab it. That's what his excuse was gonna be for moving.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave rolled onto his back and saw where the troll was reaching for so he picked up the glass of water off the night stand before Karkat since he was closer. He offered it to the troll, still laying under him as he muttered, "Here you go." He wondered if kissing Karkat on the neck had been going too far. Probably. Definitely. Yes.
"Sorry about the kissing." Weak. He was apologizing over something like that? This was a sad day for Striders everywhere. "I'll stop if it's making you uncomfortable." Which it clearly was from what he could tell by all of the squirming Karkat had just done a fraction after he kissed his neck.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat blushed, concentrating very hard on the glass as he drank the water. Now that he had tasted it, he was painfully aware of how thirsty he was.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave figured that Karkat was ignoring him now, or maybe he was just too thirsty to respond right away. He kept himself on his back and rested his hands behind his head on the pillow, waiting patiently for Karkat to finish up with his drink in the dark. He would be deeply disappointed if Karkat didn't want to be kissed any more, but it would be perfectly understandable all the same.
