Dave had finished off the cookies and was still working on the lyrics when seven came around. This was unbelievable. He had spent the entire day trying to create lyrics and he still barely had any real subject to write about. When he felt his phone buzzing, he pulled it out and frowned when he saw it was from his brother.

Dave considered texting Bro with 'see you then asshole', but thought better of it since he didn't want to give Bro any more reason to kill him. He took a much needed break from his mix, heading into the living room and taking a seat on the futon, watching bitches bitch at other bitches on Bridezilla.

Bro walked through the door not long after, dropping a bag on the couch next to Dave. He flash-stepped to Dave's room and came out carrying a very groggy looking Karkat, who was purring due to the hand that was currently rubbing his head between his horns. "The two of you do anything today?" He asked, setting Karkat down at one end of the couch and reaching for the bag.

"Nah, just worked on my mix. He slept about ninety nine percent of the time." Karkat sure slept a whole fucking lot, Dave thought to himself. He started digging around the bag Bro had put on the futon and pulled out the wrapped up food, placing the ones that weren't his on the coffee table. After setting a few napkins on his lap, he greedily unwrapped his big mac, wolfing down a quarter of it within the first two bites. He was so fucking hungry.

"Yeah, Rob said he does that when he's lonely. Thought about getting him a coloring book." Bro replied grabbing the ten piece nugget box off the table and setting it in Karkat's lap before moving and sitting in the middle of the couch, grabbing his own Big Mac off the table.

Karkat seemed to wake up at the box being set in his lap. He eagerly opened it, and even smiled happily. He took one out, seemingly entranced by it and began to peel the skin off with his teeth, purring loudly. Once the nugget was skinless, he ate the meat, then picked up a second one.

A coloring book? Really? Karkat was officially five years old in Dave's eyes. He didn't say anything though, not wanting to hurt the overly sensitive troll's feelings. Instead, he put his mouth to work by devouring more of his big mac, peering over Bro and watching said troll eat his chicken nuggets like a mental patient. He looked back at the tv, gulping down the mouthful he had before stating, "You can change it to whatever. I'm not really watching this show anyway."

"Nah. Its all hells of ironic." Bro replied, eating his own burger with one hand, while the other hand rested on the back of the futon.

Karkat only ate nine of his nuggets, setting the box on the table before practically falling over onto his side, his head landing on Bro's thigh.

Bro took his hand off the back of the futon and set it on Karkat's head, carefully avoiding his horns and scratching his head.

Dave watched Bro stroke Karkat's head, slightly envious that the other Strider was able to get that close to the troll without him having a break down. Of course he acts like a kitten when he's around someone who didn't nearly crack his horn open within the first five minutes of getting to know them.

"True," he nodded, propping his feet up on the coffee table as he watched the latest bride throw a fit about how her soon-to-be husband didn't buy an expensive enough ring for her.

Karkat let his eyes close as he started purring softly.

"That feel good or something?" Bro asked with a smirk.

Karkat nodded his head slightly, unwilling to move Bro's hand.

"John do this? It make you feel better?" Bro asked, pointedly looking at Dave since Karkat's eyes were closed. It was like he was even saying 'Dave, listen and maybe you'll know how to deal with him without doing bodily harm'.

Karkat nodded a bit harder.

It was difficult to decide as to whether this was just more irony that was going over Dave's head or if Bro was legitimately treating Karkat like a house cat like it was an everyday thing. It was even creepier that he was staring at him while he scratched the troll's head, not even directly talking to him, but seeming to hint at something.

He kept eating his big mac, trying to keep his eyes occupied on the tv and not the weird troll/Bro cuddle fest next to him.

"I bet you like being loved on." Bro smirked. "Is that why you're so homesick? Because John and Rob aren't here to love on you?"

Karkat gave a sad little trill of agreement.

"I'd love on you some more, but I have to go to a gig soon." Bro stated, lifting his hand back to the back of the futon.

Karkat's head jerked up and he looked up at Bro with wide, almost scared eyes as he trilled from the loss of contact.

Dave finished off the last of his big mac, his eyes not pulling off the television screen as he stated, "Was nice bonding with you, Bro." Bro was always going off to gigs, but even when he was home, Dave really didn't want to spend time with him anyway. It seemed that only when they had company over that suddenly Bro wasn't acting like a complete asshole, no, he just saved that side especially for him. It was frustrating really, like when he was trying to show John what a dirtbag his brother was and Bro was suddenly being the most pleasant bastard on the face of the Earth.

"Why don't you bond with Karkat?" Bro pointed out with a quirked brow.

Karkat chirped in protest, moving to curl himself closer to Bro and clutching at the hem of his shirt as if he didn't want him to go.

"Don't worry, You've got Dave." Bro stated

Wordlessly, Dave removed his feet from the coffee table and stepped off the futon, snatching up the McDonald's bag and heading into the kitchen to throw it away. If Bro actually expected him to get so warm and cuddly around the troll, he had another thing coming. Karkat was scared of him. If he were to put his hand on Karkat's head, the troll would probably have a seizure. That and it was a notch over his 'what is ironic' and 'what is creepy' scale. Petting Cal: ironic. Petting someone he barely knew and barely liked who was also his age: creepy.

Bro carefully detached Karkat, getting up to follow Dave into the kitchen and leaving Karkat keening on the couch. "You're gonna get over this aversion to him before the end of the week." he stated quietly, so Karkat couldn't hear. "You're going to get over it, and you'll like it. I don't know if this is about that game shit, or because he's your fucking rival for Egbert Jr.'s affections, and I don't give two fucks. Got it?"

Casually, Dave stuffed the McDonald's bag and his big mac wrapper into the garbage, "Or what? Big bad Bro gonna teach me manners?" He scooted the garbage can back under the sink and shut the bottom cabinet silently, turning to face Bro. "He's fucking scared to death of me." Dave hissed, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed, "I'm not even avoiding the little shit. The only thing I'm not doing is kissing his baby alien ass, which you seem to be doing a fine job of by the way."

"That isn't kissing his ass. That is acting how Robert told me to. Calm, collected and warm. I'm not doing much more besides making sure he isn't alone." Bro replied. "Maybe you should be a little less of an asshole. That's why he's scared of you. Act a little more like John."

Dave couldn't believe that Bro was actually telling him to act like John when he said that he was acting 'calm, collected and warm'. Well, John was warm, but like, the dorky friend type of warm. "Dude, this is clearly an unhealthy attachment or some psycho shit that he's got going for him. He's too old to act like this." He gestured towards the living room in the direction of the troll, "What is he gonna do when we're not around to give him 'lovings'?"

"Dave, this kid grew up in a world where if he went outside he would die, with a monster that pretty much kept him confined inside and the only people he ever interacted with were online." Bro stated. "By the time John got his hands on him, he was starved for any type of positive attention, and we both know the Egberts are a very lovey touchy bunch. So please, just fucking humor me and him for the month and I'll fucking pay for a semester of collage. Or get you a ps3. Your choice there."

Bro may have been paying more attention to Mr. Egbert's lectures about parenting, but it seemed Bribing was always a good resort to get what he wanted.

Dave wasn't going to argue when there was a semester of college at stake here. At the same time though, he was wondering how Bro was going to pull that much money out of his ass. "So infantilizing him is the right way to go about this?" Well alright then. He'd be sure to add a pacifier and a bib to the shopping list this month. "I mean, I'll do it, just, seriously though, is there no hope for him to develop a spine?"

"You don't have to treat him like a baby, just, a little kid. You gotta go slow, and you gotta love on him. Make him feel comfortable." Bro replied. "That's all you have to do. Think you can handle it?"

"I don't see how I've got a choice in the matter." Dave sighed finally, rubbing his forehead. "Is there anything else I should know about him before you leave and some other bullshit happens that I should have been told about prior to? Because that whole MUTE thing- that would have been nice to know before you left me alone with him."
