Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
"Ok then." Dave mumbled, stepping out of bed and looking around in his closet. He grabbed a fresh set of clothes and changed into them in the bathroom, figuring that he might as well avoid flashing the troll on top of whatever else seemed to have Karkat acting so mentally scarred. When he came back to his room, he tossed a small notepad and a mechanical pencil on one of the beanbags, "I'm going to the store. Write down what you want me to bring back or I'm just gonna guess everything."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat flinched before hesitantly taking the notepad and a pencil. He hastily scrawled something down before turning it to face Dave. His hand writing was awful, like a little kid, but it clearly said 'I want to go home'
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave looked down at the notepad and sighed, trying to reason with the troll, "That's not fair, Karkat. You know I can't take you home. You've got to stay here until Mr.Egbert gets back."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat turned the paper around with a noisy sniffle, scribbling out that question and scrawling out something else. He hesitated before turning it to face Dave.
'why did I have to come here?' Both the y and the r were backwards and the ds looked like Karkat had tried to make them bs before realizing it was wrong.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
It took a moment for Dave to discern what the troll had written down, kind of depressing that someone who had been on Earth for this long couldn't write properly. "Because you clearly can't take care of yourself, I guess." Dave stated, trying once again to get the troll to answer his original question, "So seriously, tell me what you want to eat. I know you've got to be starving by now."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat threw the notepad and pencil down in frustration and flopped down on the floor to curl up in a tiny ball in the corner. He didn't know if he wanted anything, especially if Dave was the one getting it. Who knows what he would do to it.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave came back with Karkat's things, setting them beside the pile of bean bags, "Then I guess you're going to the store with me since I can't trust you to not run away. Now get ready to go."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat stubbornly curled in a tighter ball on the floor, refusing to move. He didn't want to go. He didn't want to go anywhere but home.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave stepped over to where Karkat was, offering a hand to help him up. "Look, do you want to do this the easy way or the hard way? Because I really don't want to have to drag you around and I'm sure you don't want to get on my bad side. So it would really make both of our lives easier if you just come with me."
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat swatted Dave's hand away with a little hiss. He didn't want to go anywhere with him, period. Not only did he not trust him, no, wait, that was it. He didn't trust him at all.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
"Ok, you don't like me and I don't like you; we're even. Except that you seem to be pissing yourself over everything I do around you." Dave took a seat in front of Karkat, staring him straight in the eye, though it was hard to tell from the blank vision his glasses gave off, "Bro has left you as my responsibility and I don't want to be around you anymore than you want to be around me. Just get my situation for a minute here."
He sighed, scratching the back of his head, "I'm sorry about your horn, my bad, but if something else happens to you when I'm at the store, it's going to be my ass on the chopping block, ok? So even if I wanted to hurt you, which I wasn't even trying to just so you fucking know, I can't leave a scratch on you without Bro jumping on my dick about it." Hopefully this would set the troll's mind at ease, to some extent anyway.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat glared at Dave, still refusing to move in his silent way of saying 'I'm not going anywhere.' He still didn't want to go anywhere, and he really didn't want to eat anything. He would go on a hunger strike if he had to, but he didn't know how long he'd last; he was already missing Mr. Egbert's confections terribly, the man usually gave him a cookie with every meal.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave shrugged, getting up off the floor, "I guess that if you're not coming with me, then I'm not leaving." It was a shame really, he had been kind of keen on having breakfast today, well, it was just about noon so it was more like brunch, but that was such an old lady's word that Dave honestly never wanted to have to use it. It seemed to only fit in sentences like, 'After the scrap book club meeting, Mildred and I climbed into our wheelchairs and stopped by the tiny cafe for brunch.'
He seated himself in his computer chair and fired up his computer, deciding that he might as well kill the time by trying to get some work done on his mix since Karkat was going to be an uncooperative little prick.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat watched Dave with wary eyes for a bit before sitting up and pulling one of his bags closer. He took his eyes off Dave to rummage through it, rubbing at the little bit of make up on his face that Dave had missed when he cleaned the blood off him last night.
He was looking for either one of the books he had laid out to be packed or his DS. He didn't even get to pack his bag, the first time he had packed both Egberts had stared in horror. John had repacked after Karkat laid out what he wanted to bring, with John tossing in a few things of his own.
Karkat pulled something out and couldn't help but let out a chirp of surprise. He stared at the freezer bag in his hand, filled to the brim with cookies, and more importantly the blue sharpie note on the front of it, trying, and failing, not to tear up.
Karkat,
I realize that you probably feel out of place right now, and I'm sorry that I couldn't let you stay home alone. Under any other circumstances I would have let you , but I won't be returning for nearly a month and John will not be there for almost as long as he is attending sleep away camp for two weeks. I baked you these cookies and snuck them in your bag, hoping that perhaps it will help you feel a little more at home.
Always Proud of you,
Dad

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave was still waiting for the computer to finish bringing itself to life when he heard Karkat give another chirp and he spun around in his chair, wondering what he was trilling over this time. Spotting the bag of cookies, he raised a brow, almost wanting to ask for one or to just take the damn thing, but Karkat probably wouldn't give him any even if he did ask and he wasn't mean enough to steal another guy's cookies. That was just a dick move.
He noticed the troll reading a note and could already guess who Karkat had gotten the cookies from. This was an especially easy conclusion to come to when considering how John would have a panic attack whenever baked goods were ever brought up, which left only one other person in the Egbert household that could have been Karkat's secret admirer.
Instead of teasing Karkat for having a goody bag, Dave decided to ignore it and went back to staring at his screen. He typed in his password, which Bro had already figured out so it's not like there was much of a point of having one, and pulled his headphones on.

Karkat set the bag down for a moment to reset his beanbags then delicately set his plush up and wriggled up on top of them into a comfortable position, grabbing his bag of cookies and a book he had finally found in his bag.
He gave a happy little chirp and opened the bag and the book, letting a cookie hang from his lips to nibble as he opened his book to where he had last left off.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave decided that he would touch up more on the lyrics than with creating the actual sound for the mix for the time being since it felt weird for him to rap out loud to a monitor when someone was in the room with him. He pulled up a Word document and got out the file he had been working on, reading over what he already had several times before highlighting and scrapping it all together. Even when he was the king of freestyle, he was still having a rap brain block just like before.
He listened to what he had so far, appreciating the rhythm and considering how he should add some more base at a few more points in the song and maybe tweak the kinds of instruments for the chorus bit. Making music was easy, making lyrics was usually easy too, but none of the lyrics he was coming up with lately felt good enough to really match the mood of the music.
After writing and rewriting and deleting and control z'ing the Hell out of the mix, he pulled down his headphones and glanced over at Karkat, checking up to make sure that he was still there. It wasn't like he wouldn't notice if he left, but it couldn't hurt just to double check every once and a while. His stomach grumbled moodily at the sight of the cookies and he turned his head back to his work, distracting his hunger with more work. He would eat another canned sustenance in the kitchen as soon as he was done with the lyrics, he told himself.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat noticed the little glances to him, as if Dave was debating on something, or if He was worried that he was gonna hurt himself. When he heard Dave's stomach growl, he realized that he was looking at his cookies. His first instinct was to hold the bag closer, but then he realized that Dave could easily take his cookies if he wanted to. As a hopeful peace offering that Dave would leave him alone, Karkat waited until Dave was absorbed in his computer again before reaching up and slipping a particularly large cookie onto the desk, thankful that his bed of sorts was stuffed right up in in the corner against the desk and Dave's nightstand. He hurriedly went back to his book, being as unobvious about the cookie as possible.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
After adding a few more lyrics in that Dave decided weren't all bad, he noticed something different on his desk in the corner of his eye. In all of the years that he had lived with Bro, he had learned that he should always acknowledge the most trivial things, because it might result in him getting a kick in the head. He looked over at the misplaced cookie on his desk then back at Karkat. His grumbling stomach demanded that he stop ignoring the baked good and get straight to eating it, but he instead acted like it wasn't there, going back to work. He didn't know if Karkat had done something to it or not and wasn't willing enough to find out.
Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Karkat finished his cookie and let out a sleepy little chirp. Reading while nibbling on a cookie always made him sleepy. He struggled to finish his chapter then marked the page. Unsure if Dave had eaten the cookie or not (he hadn't been paying attention), he slipped another large cookie up onto the desk before closing the bag and rolling over to curl around his plush.
He fell asleep easily, his face relaxing into something much more innocent and childish looking than the permanent scowl on his face.

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave finally gave up when half an hour had passed and all he had were two sentences that sucked ass. The headphones were tugged off and he tilted back in his seat, sighing in frustration. He took another glance over at the troll and rose both of his eyebrows, taking in the scene before him. When he had found the plushie before, he hadn't thought much of it because he was racing the clock, but now that he remembered that Karkat had the thing, he couldn't help but snicker over it. It was the dumbest, cutest thing he had ever seen and he didn't want to be the only one to bask in this sugary, marshmallow goodness.
He whipped out his phone, finished reading all of his unopened messages, took a picture, and sent it to John after tweaking around with it a little.

Karkat's all good. Look at this fucker. Sleeping like a god damn baby.

he does that all the time. what did you think, that his face was permanently set to a scowl all the time? i know i already told you he cries like a baby over romcoms, and he was crying last night so you know he's not a total hardass man. just don't tease him about it, i'd rather not have a repeat of when he had to stay at rose's okay?

Re: Unspoken Attraction (Dave/Karkat)
Dave picked up one of the cookies off the desk, chewing on the edge of it in one hand while he texted in the other. Well, if Karkat had done anything to these cookies, he sure as Hell couldn't tell. Besides, judging by how horrified the troll was, he would be willing to place good money that Karkat would have been too terrified to sabotage him, not unless he had a death wish anyway.

I was just trying to let you know that he's alive and well; don't have to give me his tragic life story.

Karkat gave a little chirp in his sleep, curling up more and cuddling his doll as he slipped into a dream.
