Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Dave's brows furrowed. Normally, he would leave the apartment or go up on the roof until the two were done, but this time Cal was protesting too. Did he really want to spend time with him that badly? It seemed so, and that was all Dave needed to know. Putting a foot on the futon, Dave suddenly shoved with all of his weight against Bro, effectively knocking him off of Cal. "He said he doesn't want to. What are you going to do, rape him?" His hands were curled into fists. He wouldn't put it past him to do so.

Bro grunted and got up, intending to tackle Dave and possibly beat the shit out him, but before he could do more than get his legs under himself, Cal was there, pushing him to sit down.
"Bro, calm the fuck down okay?" Cal demanded, rather than ask.
"Why? You fucking think I'm gonna rape you too?" Bro snarled.
"No, I think you would have just kept fighting dirty until I gave in, or go off to sulk on the roof. Probably until I gave in." Cal replied, letting go of his shoulders and getting up off the futon. "C'mon Dave, let's go to the store"

Dave gave Cal a nod before his eyes temporarily cemented themselves on Bro. He knew he would be hearing shit about this later, most likely through physical means. That was fine with him. As long as he got to spend time with Cal.
He finally peeled his eyes away from the eldest Strider, giving a light shake of the head. It upset him sometimes that Bro was more than happy to ravage Cal before even acknowledging that he existed. But he knew that wasn't Cal's fault. "Let's go." he said, monotone. He grabbed his keys from his room, pulling on his shoes before he headed for the front door, deciding him and Bro needed some space. Or, more than usual.

Cal slipped his own shoes on at the door, grabbing the lanyard with his keys off the nail by the door and shoving them in his pocket. "We'll be back later. Okay?"
"What the fuck ever." Bro snapped, throwing himself down on the futon with his back to Cal.
Cal looked hurt a moment before covering it up with his own, rarely used, pokerface. "Fine, fuck you too." He snapped, walking out to wait in the stairwell.

Dave walked out after Cal, slamming the door behind him. He gave an irritated sigh. Just what he needed after today. He was pretty sure that's not how any of them wanted things to turn out. Then again, their life was full of strife, so it was something they all had to expect while living together.
With his hands in his pockets, he walked towards the stairwell, looking over at Cal. His brows lightly furrowed when he saw the other's blank stare. "...you okay?" he asked, fully well knowing the answer. Cal only used his pokerface when he was pissed off to the max or just plain hurt. Dave guessed this time, it was a mixture of both.

"I'm okay" Cal replied softly in monotone. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before walking down the stairs. "My, shades are in the car" he stated. "I forgot to bring them in the last time I wore them."
It was quiet as they walked down and out of the building to their spots. Both Bro and Cal had shitty cars, held together by duct tape and Bro's reliable mechanic work. Bro's was infinitely nicer since he actually painted it when he was done fixing it. Cal's car looked like it shouldn't even run, but it actually ran pretty well.
Cal stopped a few feet from the cars and gave them his ten yard stare. "Dave, do you want to drive?" he asked

Dave followed quietly behind the other, listening as he spoke. He thought to himself when the last time Cal wore his shades. They were on with the pokerface, because when Cal had his pokerface on, he sometimes made children cry. He just looked downright creepy, as if he was staring into your soul...like some sort of doll.
He stood beside him, looking at the cars. Dave had his permit, so he could drive, and he figured maybe he should, considering Cal's current state. "Yeah." he said simply, reaching out and tugging the keys from Cal's pocket by the lanyard. He approached the car, unlocking it before sliding into the drivers seat.

Cal slid into the passenger seat and popped open the glove box, pulling out his shades, nearly identical to the pair Bro wore. He stared at them for a few minutes before putting them back. "I'll just get a cheap pair at the store." he mumbled, buckling his seat belt and leaning his head against the murky glass of the window.
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Dave stuck the key in the ignition after buckling up, turning it to make the car rumble to life. He heard the other speak and looked at him. He contemplated something for a moment, then gave himself a nod. He removed his rounded shades, exposing his bright red eyes. He held them out, gently tap tapping Cal's arm with them. Even in his right mind, Dave wouldn't do this for anyone. Anyone but Cal.

Cal turned and looked at the shades, his brow furrowing slightly but doing nothing to make him look like he felt anything. "You'll need those to see. Your eyes are sensitive." he stated, turning back to the window, the tiniest of smiles playing at the corners of his mouth.
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
"An hour or so won't kill me. C'mon." He pressed on, giving his arm another tap with the shades.
He knew those were the ones John got him for his birthday years ago, and they meant a lot to him. But he knew Cal wasn't feeling at his best and needed cheering up. He was determined to see that smile again before they got back.

"Dave, since your eyes are so sensitive, you're required to wear them in the car. Meaning when you're driving" Cal snorted. "Just put them on and drive." The smile grew a tiny bit, but now it was recognizable as a smile.
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
The young Strider internally grinned when he saw Cal smile, but it wasn't enough. Time to work on Cal's soft spot. He softly blinked at the other, cracking his pokerface to give a pout to the older male. "But the sun is going down...we're heading to the east anyway, so we'll be facing away from it." He gave another playful tap with his shades, trying hard not to smile. "Please?"

"Sorry Dave, but its the rule. You have to wear them" Cal smiled, turning to prod Dave's arm. "So put 'em on and let's go. And the sun's not even down that far."
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Dave blinked, wondering why it didn't work. Maybe because it was a situation involving his health, which Cal was always strict about. He playfully rolled his eyes before placing the shades back on his face. "Fine fine, the doctor wins." he mused before shifting into drive and pulling out of the parking space. As he drove, he drummed his fingers on the steering wheel to the beat of a mix he himself had put together. He didn't know Cal actually listened to his and Bro's stuff outside of when he was with them. This obviously scratched that thought out.

Cal smiled softly as he listened. "The kids really like listening to your music." he commented. "Sometimes I wish Bro would have taught me to mix like he did you. Then I could bring them something new to listen to all the time."
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
"Do they?" he asked, giving a small smile of his own,. Alright, maybe these kids weren't sneezing brats after all. "All you have to do is ask, man. I can throw together a few tracks for you with no problem." He glanced in the rear view mirror before merging into another lane. Then suddenly, a thought came to mind that he now kicked himself for never asking before. "What exactly do you do at the hospital?"

"Mostly I learn about the dynamics of how a hospital works and all about the paperwork, but since I have the hang of that, they have me watching the residential pediatric ward. I watch their charts and help all the kids. They're really good kids, they just never got a good chance with their lives." Cal's smile fell. "Most of them won't live to see their 18th birthday."
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Dave blinked behind his shades, looking at Cal after slowing to a stop at a red light. "Wait...these kids you work with...have terminal illnesses...?" He couldn't believe this. Cal was working with kids who had a an early death sentence, and yet managed to come home with a smile on his face. He had to give the guy credit, major props.

"yep." Cal replied. "Not all of them are Terminal though, some just have diseases that mean that they can't live with the rest of society." He looked over at Dave with a curious expression. "What's with the sudden interest in my internship?"
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
He was silent for a moment, returning his gaze to the road as the light turned green. "Nothing...I just never asked before. All I knew was that you were working in a hospital, I didn't know the details." He continued the drumming of his fingers as they pulled into the parking lot, turning the car off once he was parked. "...is it hard for you?" he finally asked, unbuckling his seatbelt but not moving to exit the car. "Knowing what's going to happen to them?"

"Sometimes. But then I just think about how lucky I am to have been able to help them, even if its just to make them smile when they need it, and I feel a little better." Cal admitted. "When its time for me to go, they always tell me how much it means to them that I visit. And that's the hardest part, because it always makes me think, what if they're not all there when I come back? What if one of them takes a turn for the worst?" His ten yard stare returned to gaze at the scenery.
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Fuck. Cal's pokerface was back. This time, it meant he was upset. He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, mentally kicking himself for being so stupid. The car was silent for a moment, the faint sounds of cars driving by the only thing that was heard.
Finally he spoke up. "...we're lucky to have you, Cal." He admitted, wholeheartedly. "I really think Bro and I would be lost without you...Sure, sometimes he's an asshat, and I'm a stubborn brat, but you know just how to get us to give in and listen. Especially when it comes to our health." he looked at him, taking off his shades to prove he meant what he said. "You're the best, dude."

"You can't cheer me up right now, Dave." Cal stated, unbuckling and getting out of the car. "But thanks for trying. Now let's get dinner and go home so everyone'll be fucking happy. I'm just tired."
Re: There's No Such Thing As Too Much Love (Dave/Cal/Bro)
Dave visibly flinched at Cal's blunt words, a look of defeated hurt spreading across his features. He sighed, getting out of the car and shutting the door, locking it before he put the keys in his back pocket. Quickly recovering with his own blank pokerface, he shoved his hands in his front pockets, staring hard at the ground as he walked towards the store.
