Work in Progress (multiple pairings)

Dirk laid in bed quietly, the curtains he made for the bottom bunk drawn as he quietly contemplated life. It was morning, not early morning, but  any time before noon was still too early for most of the Strider family to be awake, unless it was a school day.

If routine remained the same, Dave would be the next up, within the hour more than likely, then Cal, who would appear from the end of the hall to make breakfast for everyone. And then, once breakfast had been made, the clock nearing the afternoon hours, Jeff would appear to claim his place as the alpha male at the table, taking the best of the food, and then claiming the livingroom as his personal entertainment for the day and leaving Dave and Dirk to their own devices while he split his attention between working his way into Cal's pants and whatever crap he decided to leave on the television.

Dirk's prediction had been correct. Dave was up an hour later, yawning and stretching. He slipped slightly when getting down from his bed. This happened more often than the younger Strider twin was willing to admit. But nothing was was going to ruin his mood today. After breakfast Dave was going to the Egbert house to spend the day with John. The first week of school had been busy and hectic, especially with John taking mosty ap classes.

Dave grabbed a change of clothes before going to the bathroom. Jeff was still sleeping. He'd been at work until four and was going to be sleeping until noon at least.

Dirk pulled the curtains open and sat on the edge of the bed with his hands in his lap. He had been rather lonely with Dave back in school since Cal was also gone during the day and Jeff slept until he had to get up for work.

He smiled slightly as he thought of all the things he could get Dave to do with him today. He'd been saving up his allowance and pay to get a car, but he was more than willing to treat Dave to anything he wanted.

Dave was in the shower for close to an hour. He wanted to make sure he looked his best for John today. Of course the younger male would just say Dave always looked great to him. But Dave wanted to feel like he was at his best. He was smiling and humming to himself as he made his way back to the bedroom.

Dirk smiled at Dave. He had been sitting and waiting the whole time, but as soon as Dave appeared he was on his feet and to his side as soon as the door shut. He wrapped his arms around Dave's shoulders and laid his head on the one closest to him.

"We haven't got to spend much time together this week since school started back up" he murmured. "We should go get ice cream or something"

Dave gently shrugged him away. It seemed like Dirk was becoming clingy ever since he had started dating John. It was starting to get annoying. The older twin needed to get some friends. He couldn't spend the the rest  of his life clinging to Dave. Hopefully John wouldn't be too mad if he ever found out about them. If Dave could help it the other boy would never find out.

Dirk continued to smile at him. "Or we can go to the arcade, or rent some games to play. You deserve a day to relax after a whole week of homework." He let his hands hang at his sides from where Dave shrugged him off. "Really, we can do anything and I'll pay, my treat."

Dave wished would he had taken his aviators to the bathroom with him. They were still next to his pillow where he had laid them last night. Dirk was not going to react too well when Dave told him he already had plans for the day. Dave tossed his towel in their hamper. "I'm spending the day with John."

Dirk's smile faltered and his face fell with a soft 'oh'. "Do you want to have a movie night when you come home then? I can go out and get snacks" he offered instead, his smile coming back a moment later, but not nearly as wide or warm.

Dave coughed, scratching the back of his head. Dirk was making this harder than it needed to be. And he wasn't even doing it on purpose either. Why did Dave have to feel so guilty about wanting to see his boyfriend? "I'm staying at his house tonight."

Dirk's face fell, and it was clear in his eyes that he was disappointed and possibly a little hurt. "oh. okay" Dirk mumbled. He took a step back from Dave, his gaze falling to the floor. "I... I'll find something to do, I guess. I'll see if I can fix the desktop or something so you have something to do your homework on. That should take me an hour or two" he mumbled, turning back towards his bed.

He had been planning on offering to make Dave breakfast after offering up plans for the day, but now the thought of being near food at all made his stomach turn. He crawled back into bed, laying on his side to face the wall and pulling the blanket up to his ears as he curled into a ball.

Dave had friends, and a life. He was the popular outgoing twin.

Dirk was just the quiet weird one.

"Please don't be like this Dirk." Dave was pleading as he sat on the edge of Dirk's bed. Why did Dirk have to make this so difficult. It wasn't Dave's fault that he choose not to have any friends. "You know I've really liked John since middle school. He's finally giving us a chance now. Why can't you be happy for me?"

"I am happy for you" Dirk replied. "There isn't anything wrong, you deserve to go spend time with your boyfriend. I was being selfish hoping you'd spend your off time with me.

"It doesn't even matter. I'll find something to do" He didn't sound alright, he sounded like he was sulking, even to himself. 

He was so pathetic.

No one wanted to be his friend for long. He had been friends with a large group for a short while, until they found out how old he actually was, then they didn't want him to hang out with them anymore because according to them, 'teenagers cause drama' which is why they didn't want anyone under the age of 19 to hang out with them.

They were mostly assholes anyway.

Dave stood back up, grabbing his aviators. He was just going to skip breakfast now. John would more than likely feed him anyway. The younger boy really liked feeding him for some reason. Dave wasn't going to complain about it though. "I'll see you when I get home."

"I'll be here. Don't have anywhere else to be" Dirk replied glumly.

Dave felt guilty the whole walk to the Egbert House. Dirk always got so mopey whenever he left the apartment. He really needed his own friend's. The thing with the older kids was just blown out of proportion and exaggerated by Dirk. Meenah and Cronus had been the only two that had a problem hanging out with someone his age. The others had been very accepting of him. Dave was grinning again as he knocked on the door of John's house.

John answered the door with a grin, holding his arms out wide to pull Dave to his chest for a hug. "You loser, I've been waiting for you"

Dave wrapped his arms around John, pressing his face against the taller male's chest. "Not all of us are morning people like you," Dave mumbled.

John chuckled as he pulled Dave inside. "Its not that, you said you'd be here before noon!" he grinned. "You almost missed lunch"

Dave huffed, pouting slightly. "I got here as soon as I could. I haven't even eaten yet today." His stomache gurgrled right after he spoke. "See? It's backin me up."

"Yeah, well how long did you spend in the shower?" John teased, pulling Dave along to the kitchen.

Dave stuck his tongue out. "Long enough to look my best for you."

"Then what took you so long to get here!" John laughed. After a quick glance to make sure his dad wasn't around, he ducked in for a kiss.

Dave smirked, wrapping his arms around John's neck.

"We're making you something to eat, then we're going to my room" John mumbled to him. "Okay?"
