John grinned over at Jake from his position in the passenger seat of Jake's, admittedly cramped at the moment, jeep. It was the middle of summer and they were nearing their destination in a long line of cars and moving vans. "You excited?" he asked

Moving to a new place wasn't always nice, and John never remembered having to move out of state before, but something happened that endangered the whole family, so slick ordered them to get the hell out of dodge, which is why they were crossing the Texas state line after a long, long drive from Washington.

The majority of Jake's attention was on the road. He grunted at John as he merged into the left lane. Jade giggled from the back seat. "You should know he's concentrating on the road, John."

"There's nothing really to concentrate on except following the truck" John rolled his eyes. "Its not like its hard"

He turned to face Jade. "What about you?"

"You know Jake gets nervous when he's driving on new roads. Especially for long trips." She leaned over to kiss her brother's cheek. Jade was grinning when she turned her head to look at her cousin. "I'm pretty excited. Gramps told me Miss Rhonda got a promotion and her company wanted her to work at a branch in Texas. So we'll be close to the Striders and the Lalondes!"

"Dave lives in Texas?" John asked in surprise

"You didn't know that?" She gave him a confused look. "He's been your best friend since 7th grade and you don't know where he lives?"

Jake yelped as he slammed on his break. "Damn drivers."

John's face flushed in embarrassment. "We never really talked about it" he admitted "All I knew is that he lived in the south. I never told him where we lived either." He turned to look at Jake. "Do you know how much farther? I kinda have to piss"

Jake only shrugged as he merged onto a different highway. Jade raised a brow at him. "Wow. Rose sent me presents all the time. Dave always sent me stuff for my birthday." She patted Jake's shoulder. "He was always getting gifts from Dirk and Roxy."

"I got Dave presents" John stated hastily. "But they were always like, online giftcards, or memberships. Or I sent him money through paypal and shit so he could get exactly what he wanted"

Jade sighed and shook her head. "It's not the same. Money and gift cards aren't personal." Jake hummed his agreement.

"I did get him his aviators" John admitted. "Like, I won them in a bid and gave him my password and everything so he could get them shipped to him. The address wasn't still in there when I logged back on, so I assume he deleted it and shit. I never asked because I figured it didn't matter much or that he didn't want me to know his address"

Jade shrugged at him. "Whatever, John."

John sat back in his seat, his face flushed in embarrassment.

Jade leaned over to kiss his cheek. "Sorry."

"I didn't even get a chance to tell him I was moving" John mumbled

Jade grinned at him. "It will just be a pleasant surprise now."

"Did you tell him?" John asked

[midnightVigilante]

Jade shook her head. "Nope."

"I guess he really will be surprised then" John smiled.

Jake let out a yawn. Jade grinned as she kissed his cheek. "Our poor big bear is tired. Hardly got any sleep last night."

John grinned. "Need me to take over Jake?" he asked almost teasingly.

Jake shook his head but yawned again. Jade frowned at him. "Maybe you should let him drive Jake. You can take a nap."

"I promise I won't do anything like last time, I've gotten loads better" John replied

"It's okay," Jake mumbled. "Really. I can drive." Jade flicked his ear. "Don't make me call Grandpa."

"I promise not to wreck your car" John stated sweetly.
