Dave made a grunt of disappointment, hoping Karkat would be ready to get on camera with them immediately.

"I know, my camera is really slow..." Tavros agreed before waving at John, shifting around in his seat from how excited he was to see his matesprit on screen.

"How's Karkat doing?" Dave butted in again.

Tavros smiled sweetly. "Oh, he's doing better! Still weak from surgery, but his fever's finally starting to go down, at least enough so he can walk around on his own... well, sort of..." Tavros's expression transitioned from thoughtful to worried as he rose from his seat. "Um, hey, I'm gonna go check on him real quick, okay?"

The computer's mic managed to pick up the quiet creak of the door opening and the soft questioning chirp that could only be Karkat.

Dave shifted excitedly at the sound of the familiar chirp, taking every ounce of his poker face training not to break into a dorky smile. To hell with it, he was amongst friends, he could grin as foolishly as he pleased.

Tavros had turned his head towards the source of the noise and motioned for the other troll to come over, patting his lap. "Oh, hey, Karkat, c'mere! Dave and Bro are on skype."

Slowly, Karkat shuffled into view, a thick bandage around the top of his head. He peered sleepily at the screen as he crawled up into Tavros's lap.

Tavros gently rubbed the back of Karkat's neck.

"Hey Karkat, how you feelin'?" Dave asked, leaning towards the screen to get a good look at him.

Dave's eyebrows arched sympathetically for the tiny troll, his heart breaking at the pitiful noise. "Aw, baby, it's not so bad. You've got Tav there to help you out, isn't that right?"

Tavros hummed, gently nuzzling the bandage-free part of Karkat's head. "Don't worry, I've been keeping a close eye on him."

"That's good" John smiled sympathetically. "He's pink now though, rather than grey."

"Very pink," Dave agreed. "Is that normal?"

"It's part of the surgery, yeah, but it fades eventually. I was orange for a few days," Tavros chuckled.

"It's good seeing you two," Dave hummed. "Got any more news about my future nieces and nephews, Preggers?"

"Nothing new has really happened aside from the pictures I sent Bro, although my tummy has gotten even bigger since I last saw you guys. It's kind of freaky... but Karkat's been helping me set up a sort of nest for when the time comes. He's really good at making those."

"Looks like your skin's going from pink to red," Dave chuckled.

"Ease up on the flirting," Tavros warned breathlessly.

"Why? You jelly?" Dave smirked.

"No, it's just that... Karkat is getting, uh really, really warm while sitting on my lap," Tavros explained, shifting around in his seat. "And it doesn't help that I haven't seen Bro for some time."

Dave snorted. "Should I leave my brother with my laptop and give the two some alone time to help you sort out those hormones?"

Tavros looked hopeful. "Wha-really?"

"No. Tav, jesus, I was kidding." Dave's smirk dropped.

"Dave, seriously, please don't joke like that... that's just cruel," Tavros whined.

"Do you... do you want to be french kissed?" Tavros asked softly, his face burning up at the idea of someone else kissing his matesprit as he wrapped his arms around Karkat and gently squeezed him from behind.

"He's joking, Tav," Dave chuckled, gripping Bro by the shirt and pulling him into a tight hug.

Dave released Bro. "He most certainly isn't," he assured the troll with a weak smile. "I really am happy to see you, Karkat."
