"You're on." Dirk smirked as he started the game and chose the settings.

Just then, Dave and John were coming up the stairs leading to the Strider's floor level.

Jake sat next to him on the futon, a little closer than necessary.

John was talking very animatedly about how he had become friends with Karkat, and by association, Gamzee.

Dirk didn't think anything of it as they proceeded to play.

Dave hung on his every word, especially when Karkat was being discussed. He wanted to know more about him, try to find any commonalities to give him better chances.

"So what do you like so much about john?" Jake asked.

"He lived behind me across the ally" John stated with a smile. "Every once in a while we hop the fence and hang out. Not so much anymore now that Gamzee's been over more."

"He loves me for me. And he accepts all of my quirks and insecurities." Dirk explained. "He's just really down to earth."

"Mmhm." Dave hummed quietly. "So you and him hung out quite a long, huh? Anything in particular he likes more than others?"

Dirk glanced over at him and snorts lightly. "Are you jealous? Jealous that you didn't beat him to the punch?"

"Hm...I can work with that." Dave murmured before he realized he had said that out loud. "...I mean."

Dirk actually looked at him now. "...Are you really?" This was a surprise to him after all. He had tried to gain Jake's affections beforehand, but only assumed he wanted a friendship.

Dave frowned and gave him a small nudge. "Shut up, dude. I need to put myself out there somehow, and you know how hard it is for me to find someone who I actually like rather than vice versa."

John laughed. "He doesn't seem like your type though"

"Why didn't you say anything, then?" Dirk asked, his tone a little quieter. "Why didn't you take my advances before?"

"Anyone who doesn't immediately swoon or give me one of those stupid smiley looks when they first meet me is definitely my type." Dave stated. "I'm sick of the same old people trying to go after me."

"Half the time I wasn't even aware you were making advances" Jake admitted. "And half of the time when I did know, I was too nervous to respond. The other half I just failed miserably"

John laughed. "He'll kill you dude"

Dirk was quiet for a minute, playing through his turn on the game. "...Well...it's a little too late now, Jake. I'm sorry."

"And I'd let him too." Dave said with a playful grin.

Dave turned as they reached their floor, heading towards the appropriate door to their apartment.

Dirk sighed softly, running his hand through his own hair as he tried to think of something that would make Jake feel better. "What do you want me to say then?"

Dave pulled out his keys to unlock the door.

Dirk swallowed softly as he felt the other move closer, not even moving away himself.

Dave shrugged a little. "Had some kind of weird voodoo man vision about me and Karkat being together. Thats what caused the push fight, anyway." He said as he unlocked and started to open the door.

Dirk looked up as well before trying to lean away a little.

"Whatever the hell it is he calls them." Dave said with a grunt as they walked in. "But he seemed really butthurt about it."
