No Strings Attached (Bro/Cal)

Jeff was mumbling under his breathe, making his way to the backside of the school building. Why the fuck were chicks so clingy and nosy. His "girlfriend" Lucy had jumped his shit because she had called him 37 times. He hadn't answered at all. He had been busy. Making out with her best friend. But that's not the point at the moment. Lucy was constantly up his ass. Always wanting to hang out or talk on the phone, or was texting him. All the time.

Right now she was waiting for him in the parking lot. He had told her he was going to go have a smoke with some friends. He didn't even smoke. But she hated being around smokers and Jeff knew she wouldn't follow him. By this time no one should be back where he was going anyway.

Calvin, or Cal as he preferred, had attempted to sneak out the back of the school to walk home and completely bypass all the bullies and torture he had to put up with on a day to day basis.

He had forgotten that the back of the school was where most of the kids went to smoke before going home, and that most of the football team smoked. It was a bitter train of thought as he curled in the corner, knees protecting his skinny chest from the brunt of the kicks and stomps being poorly aimed at him.

As usual, when they tired of just kicking him, Someone hauled him up by his backpack and they started punching him, which quickly ended when his nose started bleeding. He was lifted higher between most of them and they all started moving towards the dumpsters. They had been emptied earlier that day, so if they threw him in, he'd never get back out on his own, and would probably stay there until the janitor came in the morning.

Jeff sneered when he saw the majority of the football team gathered around the back dumpster. He had never gotten along well with them. He beat the shit out of the quarterback once and they hated him for it. Probably because he wasn't afraid of them. And had no problem with fighting any of them.

His sneer turned into a grin when he spotted Michael Farling. Jeff had been in 8th grade when he met the little shit. Farling had been a 7th grader. He had tried to show off to the middle school football team and picked a fight with the oldest Strider. That ended in a broken nose for the younger and a week suspension for both.

Jeff cracked his knuckles before approaching the crowd. Getting to rearrange Farling's face. And in front of his shit for brains friends. This day was starting to get better.

"Incoming! Strider!" someone yelled. Everyone looked over at him and quite a few of them cursed. "Fucking hell! Book it!" "He can't take all of us at once!" "like hell he can't!"

Cal had a very painful reunion with the asphalt as the team dropped him and ran, a few kicking and stomping on him as they made their hasty escape. He just curled into the fetal position, arms covering his head. He'd never met either of the Striders, but he'd heard enough stories that had him prepared for the worst.

Jeff laughed as the team scrambled and ran off. Bunch a fucking pussies. Joanne was going to get a kick out of this when he told her. Hang on. What was that shaking little blonde lump by the dumpsters? What the fuck? Had they been beating up an elementary school kid? He knew those sissies only had a chance against one, but were they really that low? "Hey kid, you okay?"

Cal curled into a tighter ball when he was addressed. 'please don't come over here, please don't come over here' he prayed silently. He didn't think he'd be able to outrun him to begin with, he was too short and his legs were short, and he'd heard that both Striders were wanted on the Track team because they were notoriously fast.

Jeff frowned in concern. Poor little guy. The little thing kinda reminded him of his little brothers. They acted like that too when they were hurt or upset. "Hey kid," he tried to keep his tone soft. He got close and knelt by him. "Are you okay?"

Cal flinched away from him, scrabbling away on his hands and butt, not turning his back to him. His blue eyes were wide and fearful, tears and blood dribbling down his face. If He was going to get beat up again, he was at least going to face it head on.

Jeff held his hands up defensively. "Easy kiddo. I'm not gonna hurt ya. Shouldn't ya be in school? Elementary doesn't let out until 3:30."

Cal sniffled, wiping blood on his sleeve. "I'm 15" he mumbled, not taking his eyes off Jeff. "M'a freshman"

Jeff chuckled. "Sorry man. You're just so little. Kinda look like my baby brothers." He stood up and held a hand out to the smaller blonde.

Cal shrunk back from his hand, looking small and helpless.

Jeff held out both arms. This guy was kinda cute. Cuter than Lucy. Quieter too. "Let me help you."

Cal was very hesitant as he reached out and took one of Jeff's hands.

His hands were soft, a lot like a girls. Jeff gentely scooped the smaller male into his arms. It felt like he was holding a taller Dirk or Dave. The nurse probably wasn't on school grounds at this time. There was a first aid kit at the house. "I'm gonna patch ya up at my house."

Cal clearly panicked. He pushed away from Jeff looking scared again. "I-I can't" he limped back a few steps, holding himself. "I-I... I have to go" he mumbled hastily, turning and starting to run off, limping.

"Dude, you're hurt."

Cal didn't turn back, not even when he rounded the corner of the school.

Jeff sighed in frustration. Another cute one that got away. He checked his phone and cursed. Lucy had called 5 times and sent 30 texts. He put his phone back in his pocket, heading to the parking lot. At least he was still gonna get laid tonight.

It was a little over a week until Cal saw Jeff again. The football team had caught him on his way in (he was sure Micheal had something to do with it) so he spent a good part of the morning in the nurse's office, then going to his classes to catch what he missed, which in turn made him late to lunch where he usually made a quick run through the line to get something he could smuggle to the bathroom and eat camped out in the out of order stall where no one would bother him. He caught a glimpse of him as he shuffled to the lunch line, sitting with a girl that was all in his space, and another girl that looked just like him.

Didn't he have a sister or something?

Jeff really wished Lucy would stay in her own god damn sapce. She had to fucking cling to him everytime they were in the same room. For some reason she got even more clingy if his twin sister was around. Jeff yawned and glared at said sibling. "All I'm saying is we could take turns taking the twins to daycare in the morning."

Cal only had enough money for a cookie, the rest of his meger 'allowance' for the week no doubt resting comfortably in the pocket of one of the football players. He was on his way out of the line when someone shoved a tray into him, food side to his chest, knocking him to the floor in a mess.

Cal's eyes met Micheal's as he stood over him laughing. That's all it took for waves of laughter to spread across the cafeteria.

Cal scrambled to his feet and ran out.

Jeff had looked over when everyone started laughing. The cute little blonde from last week was running out of the cafeteria. He turned to his slightly younger sister. "Who is that?"

Joanne raised a brow at him. "Calvin Hobbes? He's a foster kid the Farling's took in."

Hmmmmmm. Interesting. "Is he single?" "What's that supposed to mean?"

Cal stood in front of the only working sink, blotting at the food stains on his shirt. If he came home with a dirty shirt again, Macy would scream at him for making her look like a bad parent. He sniffled, not even having the courage to look at his own beaten reflection.

Back in the cafeteria Lucy was shouting at Jeff. Joanne sat back, laughing as she watched. She was screaming about how Jeff always ignored her, never spent any time with her, and was always flirting with ever people. EVEN OTHER GUYS! Jeff stared at her with a bored expression.
